Charges dropped against former athletic director

CORBIN, Ky. (AP) — Rape and other charges lodged in Baltimore against the former Whitley County Schools athletic director have been dropped.

The Times-Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1zjnhy3) Michael Campbell will soon return to Kentucky after an 11-month ordeal in Maryland.

Campbell has maintained his innocence since his arrest last January.

On Friday, Campbell’s attorney Paul Croley told the newspaper that it is easy to make allegations against people that can ruin their lives.

Croley said that people forget that a criminal charge is nothing more than an unproven allegation.

Campbell became athletic director when he left the football team after the 2005 season. He was initially put on unpaid leave after his arrest.
