Centre College Offers To Host Senate Debate

Mitch McConnell and Alison Lundergan Grimes have not agreed to debate, but if they come to terms, Centre College wants to host the debate.

The candidates have gotten about a hundred debate invitations, but Centre says it can do it the best.

"The main thing that separates Centre of course is simply the fact that we’ve done it before, and we have a pretty good notion of what that entails," said Dr. Richard Trollinger, Centre College VP of College Relations

"Richard’s being way too modest in terms of why the candidates ought to choose to come here, cus we know how to do it better than anybody else, plain and simple," said John Roush, Centre College President.

Centre has TV and radio partners in place plus AARP on board.  Will the candidates accept?

"McConnell’s campaign must stop the games. Unfortunately, Mitch McConnell thinks he owns this Senate seat and hasn’t found the time to respond to our letter or sit down and negotiate with our campaign," Jonathan Hurst, Grimes campaign manager.

"Sen. McConnell greatly appreciates Centre College’s interest in hosting a debate.  Centre has an outstanding reputation for hosting world-class debates and we look forward to reviewing their proposal," said Allison Moore, McConnell Campaign spokeswoman.

Centre asks for a response by August first.
