Center being renamed in honor of former adjutant general
OWENSBORO, Ky. (AP) – The Kentucky National Guard is renaming its readiness center in Owensboro.
A statement from the guard says the facility is being named in honor of retired Maj. Gen. Dean Allen Youngman, an Owensboro native who served as the 49th Adjutant General of Kentucky and led the agency from 2001-2008.
While serving in the role, Youngman was responsible for training and mobilizing Kentucky’s Army and Air National Guard units following the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks and establishing the Kentucky Office for Homeland Security Coordination.
A renaming ceremony will be held Wednesday at the Owensboro Readiness Center, which is home to the 206th Engineer Battalion.
