Celebration of life service Friday for Officer Thurman in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A celebration of life service will take place Friday in honor of Edward Thurman, a retired police officer from Lexington who recently passed away after battling cancer.

According to Legacy Funeral Home, the service for retired Officer Thurman will be held at 4 p.m. at the FOP Bluegrass Lodge on Duval Street. Thurman, who served the community for 20 years, passed away last Sunday at the age of 55. His wife shared on Facebook that Thurman had been diagnosed with cancer that had spread to his brain.

During an Urban County Council meeting last night, Councilmember James Brown spoke about Thurman’s impact, highlighting his role as the department’s liaison with the Catholic Action Center and as a neighborhood resource officer.

Thurman retired from the Lexington Police Department this past January, concluding a two-decade-long career marked by dedication to serving the community.

Friday’s celebration of life service at the FOP Bluegrass Lodge at 4 p.m. will be followed by a gathering of family and friends from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

The community is invited to join in honoring Officer Thurman’s memory and offering support to his loved ones during this time of mourning.
