Celebration for Oldest Living KSU Graduate

On Wednesday at the Morning Pointe Senior Care residence Ora Mae Cheaney became the home’s second centenarian. There was a big birthday party for her 100th and her gifts included testimonials from her students, friends and those whose lives she touched. Mrs. Cheaney has lived through two world wars and 18 presidents. The oldest living graduate of Kentucky State University, Mrs. Cheaney was a home economics professor there for 20 years. Her first teaching job, in 1935, was in a one room school house. Her life, full of experiences, the crammed room full of admirers is a testament to the contributions she’s made. A declaration from the Frankfort Mayor’s office was made making August 1st, 2012 officially Ora Mae Cheaney Day in Franklin County.
