Celebrating Juneteenth around the city

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWSNOW) — Mayor Linda Gorton joined community leaders in announcing several different events where people across the city can come together to commemorate Juneteenth.

Tiffany Brown, the Mayor’s Office Equity and Implementation Officer explained why celebrating this holiday is so important.

“Juneteenth marks the emancipation of the last enslaved African Americans, but our celebration must go beyond the date itself,” Brown said. “It must delve deep into the stories of resilience, innovation and community that have shaped our local history.”
