CDC: 13 Heat-Related Deaths Among Children This Year

The Centers For Disease Control and Prevention says that on average, Kentucky loses a child each year in a heat-related death.

It also reports that so far this year, the heat has played a role in the deaths of 15 children across the nation.

Since 1998 an average of 37 kids die every year from those instances.

Numbers show it’s only a small percentage of caregivers who intentionally leave their children in cars on hot days.

According to the Department of Geosciences at San Francisco State University, only 18 percent of caregivers leave their children in cars on purpose.
       
Fifty-two percent of those reported instances was a result of the caregiver forgetting about the child.

The Lexington Fire Department says one tip you can use to make sure you don’t forget your child in the back of your car, is to keep something else of importance in the back, like your purse or briefcase.
