Cave Run Lake water receding, some recreation sites still under water

ROWAN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – After weeks of heavy rainfall and flooding in March and April, the water level at Cave Run Lake is slowly receding.  Some recreation areas around the lake remain under water. Two boat ramps, Scott Creek and Alfrey, are available for use.

At Twin Knobs Campground, most campsites are open and available for use, including the group use areas. At Zilpo Campground, several loops are now open, including access to some camper cabins.

The Twin Knobs beach area is open for picnicking, but the water level is above the beach along the grassy slope. The Zilpo beach is also under water.  Camping reservations will not be available at Twin Knobs or Zilpo until after June 30.

Scott Creek Marina is open and foot traffic is now available to the docks and boat slips.  The Longbow Marina is only accessible by boat at this time.  The Claylick Campground and boat ramp remain closed. The Paragon Dispersed Recreation area is also closed.

Cleanup, repairs and maintenance of these facilities and other flooded recreation areas are expected to take several weeks.  The lake is currently at 744 feet, nearly 15 feet above summer pool level.
