Catholic Action Center hosts community Thanksgiving dinner
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – While many people probably enjoyed a nice Thanksgiving meal with their families, not everyone had that opportunity.
The Catholic Action Center in Lexington hosted their 22nd annual community dinner Thursday evening for people who may not have had one otherwise.
This Thanksgiving, people at the center are giving back to those in need.
“Since we get to have our own Thanksgiving meal, it’s good for them to have it too. We can’t leave anybody out,” said Volunteer Mary Hodge.
What makes the event special is that it’s open to people from all walks of life.
That’s why Catholic Action Center Director Ginny Ramsey says she loves it.
“It doesn’t matter where people come from or what they have in their bank account or what their experiences are,” said Ramsey. “On this day, all the differences aside and we all give thanks as children of God.”
With differences put aside, Scott Owens says he felt at home.
‘I feel like I’m welcome here, you know? I don’t feel like it’s phony or nothing. It feels like it’s real,” said Owens.
He told ABC 36 he’s been living on the streets and hasn’t been able to see his family. So, for this meal, he couldn’t say enough thanks.
“Can’t ask for nothing more, really,” said Owens. “We appreciate everything and everybody that’s been helping tonight.”
