Catholic Action Center celebrates official grand opening
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- A variety of community leaders came together today in Lexington to celebrate the official ribbon cutting of the new Catholic Action Center location off Industry Road.
After years of planning, funding and building, the new Catholic Action Center is finally up and running.
“It is a wonderful feeling and there is something about cutting the ribbon and doing the dedication that does complete it,” said Ginny Ramsey, director of the Catholic Action Center.
The new facility has more than 100 beds and offers residents everything from three hot meals, to access to computers and the internet and even their own private park.
“We have all the things that one can utilize in order to feel human and in order to feel welcomed,” said Ramsey.
The center used to be split among several locations offering different types of services at each one, now everything is under one roof.
“You don’t have to be out at 7 o’clock in the morning and have no where to go. This place basically provides that to where if you need a place to stay all day you can,” said Leon Cavins, a resident at the Catholic Action Center.
The center is still undergoing some renovation but staff say they’re just finally happy their dream of a new facility has come to life.
“We still have some work we’re doing of course. It’s always a work in progress but at the same time it now feels like this is our home,” said Ramsey.
Staff say the facility has been packed since it opened about a month ago and that they are even planning on adding some more beds to accommodate more people.
The catholic action center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
