Cars flipped, impaled by limbs during Brodhead tornado
BRODHEAD, Ky. (WTVQ)- Two families in a small, Rockcastle County community have a lot of cleaning up to do after the National Weather Service says an EF-1 tornado touched down on their properties.
July 4th was loud for those families but there was no celebration, only taking cover. The NWS says the tornado was likely on the ground for only 15-20 seconds, Monday evening.
“70 feet, it was right where we’re standing and it landed over there,” describes Steve Lunsford, as he points to his car, flipped on its hood and crushed in his neighbors yard.
Lunsford’s home was also damaged, his trees twisted throughout the yard.
Although home directly across from Lunsford for seemingly untouched, his next door neighbors had damage as well. A limb, from a nearby tree, crashed through the front passenger window of their car. Tuesday morning, it was still sticking out the back. One woman at the home says it was her grandson sitting in the passenger seat where the limb went through.
She says they’d just gotten out of the car and gone inside moments earlier.
No one was hurt during the tornado.
