Carlisle man charged with double murder in Bourbon County

BOURBON COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A Carlisle man is facing two counts of murder following a violent incident in Bourbon County earlier this month. According to criminal complaints filed in Bourbon District Court, 19-year-old Christopher L. Taulbee has been charged in connection with the deaths of Dixieana Brainard, with whom he shared a child, and an unidentified male victim.

The complaint, filed by Kentucky State Police, states the incident occurred around in the early morning hours of April 3rd in Bourbon County. Troopers allege that Taulbee shot Brainard in the forehead, killing her.

In addition to Brainard’s death, Taulbee is also accused of murdering an unidentified male, who was reportedly in a dating relationship with Brainard. The complaint states that Taulbee stabbed the male victim in the throat, and then struck him repeatedly in the head with a baseball bat, ultimately causing his death.

After the killings, Taulbee allegedly contacted a witness and brought that person to the scene. The witness later told law enforcement that they observed Taulbee striking the male victim—who was still alive at the time—with the baseball bat.

The documents state that Taulbee and Brainard had a child together. The motive for the killings has not been made public, and the identity of the second victim has not yet been released.

Taulbee was taken into custody by Kentucky State Police and is being held without bond. The case remains under investigation.
