Carjacking Victim Dies, Charges Upgraded For Suspect
The victim of an attempted carjacking in Lexington has died.
The Fayette County Coroner’s Office said Donald Cooke, 82, died from injuries he sustained in the carjacking that occurred on August 1st.
According to Lexington police, Cooke told them Searcy got into his truck near Broadway and Loudon and told him to drive.
When the two reached PDQ market on New Circle Road, police said Searcy assaulted Cooke and tried to take his keys.
Witnesses at the scene stopped Searcy and called police, who arrested him at the scene.
Cooke was taken to the University of Kentucky hospital for treatment.
The coroner said Cooke died from his injuries on Monday.
Searcy is now charged with murder.
