Car thefts and robberies spike in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington police said they are investigating two auto thefts as well as an attempted auto theft that all happened within 24 hours of each other.

Officers said a man driving his car on Seventh Street on Sunday around 4 a.m. was approached by four men. They told him to get out of the car and open the door. According to police, they got away with money and the driver’s cell phone. They say the driver stepped on the gas and was able to get away.

Police are also investigating an auto theft and robbery that happened around 3 a.m. on East Loudon. The victim told police she went outside to get something she had forgotten in her truck and three men approach her. According to officers, one man held a gun to her head while the other two drove off in her vehicle. They said they also stole cigarettes and some money.

Police said 45 minutes later across town there was another auto theft and robbery at 3500 Laredo Drive. Officers said a man was surrounded in the parking lot by three men with guns. According to police, the owner of the vehicle later found his Chevy Malibu at a different place in the complex.
