Cannabis cultivator breaks ground in Wayne County

MONTICELLO, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Governor Andy Beshear announced that Kentucky has officially broken ground on its first licensed medical cannabis cultivation facility.

According to Beshear, Centaurus Farms is building a 10,000-square-foot facility in Monticello, located in Wayne County. The company is a tier-two cultivator and will be focused on growing and cultivating medical cannabis.

“That’s why I’m happy that on Monday, Team Kentucky broke ground on the first medical cannabis cultivator in the state,” Beshear said. “Centaurus Farms is a tier two cultivator that will employ dozens of Kentuckians.”

The company says the $25 million project is expected to create around 100 jobs in the area.

Governor Beshear also shared that more than 8,000 Kentuckians have already applied for and received medical cannabis cards since the state’s program officially launched in January.
