Candidates vying for council member positions hold meet and greet in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — Election Day is May 21st, just over a month away and the city of Lexington will have twelve district councilmember seats on the ballot.
District 1 candidates include current council member, Tayna Fogle, UK Anesthesia Technician, Tyler Morton, and IHeart manager, Darnell Tagaloa.

“First district is one of the poorest districts of the toil, we have more gun violence. We have more parks, we have more unsheltered folks, and I touch all of those areas. So I have lived experience as well as gaining experience over the last year,” says Tayna Fogle.

“The first issue constituents vote for me because I’m a servant leader, a health care professional, and a voice for the black and brown communities with a task, a mission to unify our district through three principles,” says Morton.

I-Heart Manager Darnell Tagaloa was not present.
District 4 candidates include, current council member Brenda Monarrez, retired Columbia Gas Director, Brack Marquette, and political advocate, Emma Curtis.

“People should vote for me because I am intentional, effective and accessible. In just my first year of my first term, I have over 30 accomplishments that I have listed in my reelection website,” said Monarrez.

“I’m interested in keeping our people safe. And public safety is a huge issue. I’m interested in affordable housing, and making sure that folks in our community can afford to live in our community if they work in our community,” added Marquette.

Meantime, Curtis says, “people should vote for me, because I am going to bust my butt to fix Nicholasville Road to increase government transparency and lower housing costs.”

District 7 candidates include U.S. Army Veteran, Frank Cannavo, immigration attorney Heather Hadi, resource management analyst, Joseph Hale and U.S. Navy Veteran, William Matthew Housh.
Current district 7 council member, Preston Worley is not running for re-election.

“I think I can draw people in to get more people engaged in government. So I’m asking for people’s vote, and I will be always be honest, and do what the people want, not what I want,” said Housh.

“I want to run on affordable housing for the for for Lexington, just as a hole, and better infrastructure, especially on some of our roads,” added Hale.

For Hadi, “I think that we need smart government and we need transparent government. We also need to be a lot more efficient in some of these town hall meetings and actually see solutions to a lot of the issues that our community is coming to city hall with.”

U.S. Army Veteran Frank Cannavo was not present at the meet and greet.
Only races with more than two candidates will be on the ballots for the primary on May 21st.
