Campton woman arrested on fetal homicide charge following KSP investigation
WOLFE COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Kentucky State Police have arrested a Campton woman following an investigation that began at a local medical clinic.
According to KSP, troopers with Post 8 were contacted around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, by United Clinic in Campton after a woman at the clinic disclosed she had aborted a pregnancy at her residence on Flat Mary Road.
Troopers and detectives responded to the clinic and began an investigation. KSP says investigators interviewed 35-year-old Melinda S. Spencer of Campton, who told detectives she had ordered medication online to terminate her pregnancy.
According to KSP, Spencer told investigators the medication resulted in the death of a developed male infant. Police say Spencer then buried the infant in a shallow grave behind her residence.
Troopers and detectives later responded to the area near the 3700 block of Flat Mary Road, where they located the infant in a shallow grave, consistent with Spencer’s statement, according to KSP.
As a result of the investigation, KSP arrested Spencer and charged her with first-degree fetal homicide, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with physical evidence.
Spencer is being held in the Three Forks Regional Jail.
