Businesses along the Kentucky River begin flood recovery

Owner of Proud Mary BBQ says flood damage is 'beyond heartbreaking'

FAYETTE COUNTY, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Proud Mary BBQ, located near the Clay’s Ferry Bridge, is cleaning up again after historic flooding damaged the lower level of the restaurant. As ABC 36 reported Monday, the Kentucky River overflowed its banks, flooding the property and causing significant damage.

Owner Emilee Sierp says it’s the second time in just two months they’ve been faced with flooding. Sierp says she’s hopeful the cleanup will be mostly complete by next week, but seeing her business in this state is tough.

“I mean it’s beyond heartbreaking, we need a new word for it. We’re blessed that nobody got hurt, we were able to salvage as much as we’ve been able to salvage, but I mean this is my life’s work, you know it’s hard,” said Sierp.

Despite the damage, she says the community is showing up in a big way.

A local power washing company is donating its services, and the Frederick Douglass High School soccer team is planning to help with cleanup this weekend.
