Bunch’s Widow Unhappy With Decision On Teens

Dewayne Bunch’s widow says the two teenagers who caused his death will not do any more jail time, and she calls that "disrespectful."

Bunch died in July, more than a year after being hurt trying to break up a fight at Whitley County High School. Bunch was a teacher there, in addition to being a member of the Kentucky General Assembly.

The two teens involved in the fight were originally charged with assault. Regina Bunch told the Lexington Herald-Leader that in court on Tuesday, the two pleaded guilty to an enhanced charge. She says they will not serve any more jail time. Bunch told the newspaper she believed they had served less than 90 days in a juvenile facility.

The court has not commented. And since the case involves juveniles, their names have not been released.

Bunch says since her husband died, it’s wrong for the two teenagers to serve such a short sentence.
