Bringing Bourbon Back To Bourbon County

More proof of a Kentucky Bourbon boom: The Kentucky Distillers’ Association added seven new members.  One of the new members makes Bourbon laced with history.

Bourbon County has been missing something.  It’s been missing for a while.  That something is Bourbon.

Bourbon got its name from Bourbon County, yet it has not had a distillery since Prohibition.

"If you’re from Bourbon County, and you go somewhere everybody is always like that must be a fantastic place to live, because of all the Bourbon that’s flowing.  No.  Up until us, there’s no Bourbon," said Andrew Buchanan, Head Distiller of The Gentleman Distillery.

Buchanan grew up in Bourbon County.  Now, he’s bringing Bourbon back.

"We’re aware of the huge hole in what the community actually used to do for the world," said Buchanan.

He’s filling that hole one barrel at a time.

"Restoring that back to Bourbon County is priceless," said Buchanan.

As a history buff, he had to do it.

"People are really excited about it," said Buchanan.

In April, he opened The Gentleman Distillery in downtown Paris.

With love, he distilled the County’s first Bourbon in 95 years.

"We are hitting milestones at every turn," said Buchanan.

So far he’s got two barrels aging Bourbon.

"One way, or the other it’s going to work," said Buchanan.

With 27 members, the Kentucky Distillers’ Association now has its largest number of members since the end of Prohibition.
