Bridge in Owen County closed indefinitely; detour in place
OWENTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – State Highway 355 bridge over Severn Creek in Owen County is closed indefinitely due to structural damage, according to the state.
Investigators say an over-sized tractor trailer’s load collided with several support beams, causing the damage. Initially the weight limit allowed on the bridge was reduced until a full inspection was made by the state Monday.
After the inspection, it was determined the bridge needed to be closed until repairs could be made, which could take weeks or months, according to the state.
Traffic is currently being detoured onto KY Highway 22 (Gratz Road) to US Highway 127 for travel from Gratz to Monterey, KY.
Subsequently traffic from Monterey to Gratz, KY is being detoured from US Highway 127 to KY Highway 22 (Gratz Road).
The detour route is approximately 27 miles in length and will hinder traffic patterns between the two Kentucky towns. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will release further information regarding the length of the closure.
