Breathitt County mother indicted for murder in son’s death; stepfather charged with complicity
BREATHITT COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A Breathitt County mother and stepfather are both facing serious charges in connection to the death of 10-year-old Jayden Spicer.
What began as a preliminary hearing Monday for Felicia Gross turned into an indictment announcement. The Commonwealth Attorney’s Office said a grand jury upgraded her original manslaughter charge to murder, along with charges of abuse of a corpse, false reporting, and tampering with physical evidence.
Her husband and Jayden’s stepfather, Joshua Gross, was also indicted. He is charged with complicity to murder, complicity to report an incident, tampering with physical evidence, abuse of a corpse, and complicity to tamper with witnesses.
Jayden’s body was found earlier this month buried inside a plastic tote in a wooded area along Canoe Road in Jackson. Investigators said Felicia Gross admitted to moving his body and told police he died after she gave him sleeping medication.
Both Felicia and Joshua Gross are scheduled to be arraigned in Breathitt Circuit Court in September.
