Breathitt County community holds vigil for Jayden Spicer
BREATHITT COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The Breathitt County community came together Wednesday to remember 10-year-old Jayden Spicer, whose body was found earlier this week after nearly a week of searching.
Family and friends gathered for a vigil, sharing memories of the boy they described as full of life and energy. According to his obituary, Jayden loved being outdoors and spent countless hours playing outside.
Officials say Jayden’s body was discovered Tuesday afternoon, buried in woods along Canoe Road in Jackson. His mother, 33-year-old Felicia Gross, is charged in connection with his death.
Jayden’s aunt, Samantha Brunty, told ABC36 News Now, “We’re thankful that we’re getting the chance to actually give this baby the proper burial and funeral that he deserves. He should still be here with us, but under these circumstances, at least we’re gonna know exactly where he is and know that he is resting in peace.”
Community member Chy Salyers said her son recognized Jayden’s name. “My son said he played with a boy named Jayden Spicer at church, and now I know it’s this Jayden Spicer. It is very, very sad,” she said.
Brunty added a personal message: “I love you, buddy. I’ll always love you and always miss you and you’ll always have a hold of my heart.”
Funeral arrangements have not been announced. Jayden would have turned 11 this October. A candlelight vigil in his memory is planned for Saturday.
