U of L changing name of Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) – Papa John’s name is being removed from the University of Louisville’s football stadium.

University of Louisville President Neeli Bendapudi announced Friday afternoon the stadium would be called Cardinal Stadium, effective immediately.

The move comes after the Louisville-based pizza chain’s founder, John Schnatter, used a racial slur during a conference call in May.

Schnatter stepped down as the company’s board chairman after apologizing for the comment earlier this week and the company says Schnatter’s image will no longer be on marketing material.
