Suspect in murder of Pikeville officer arrested

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – Kentucky State Police say they have arrested a man wanted in connection to the murder of a Pikeville police officer.

Kentucky State Police announced a warrant was issued for the arrest of 55-year-old John Russell Hall.

State Police arrested Hall without incident on Thursday at 11:01 a.m. in the Stoney Brook area of Pike/Floyd Hollow in Floyd County.

Pikeville Police Officer Scotty Hamilton was shot and killed Tuesday night while searching around a home in the Hurricane Creek area.

State Police say Hamilton was assisting troopers with an investigation.
