UPDATE: Safety alert canceled for EKU campus
UPDATE: (8/15/18, 8:25 a.m.) – Eastern Kentucky University says the alert issued Wednesday morning has been canceled.
The university issued an “all clear” just before 8:30 a.m. saying it was safe to resume normal activities on campus.
The university says the alert was issued because of an incident off campus involving Richmond police, who were searching for a man they believed may be armed and headed an unknown direction of travel.
“Because of the proximity to campus, we issued the alert out of an abundance of caution,” the university said in the campus notification.
MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQQ) – Eastern Kentucky University issued a safety alert for campus Wednesday morning.
The alert warned of a dangerous situation near the Richmond campus involving a man who was possibly armed with the intent to cause harm.
Another alert issued a short time later said Madison County 911 advised the man was possibly headed away from campus in the direction of the First Baptist Church.
People were being told to shelter in place.
