UPDATE: ‘Heightened alert” lifted at elementary school following shooting

UPDATE: (05/03/18, 11:31 a.m.) – Fayette County Public Schools says the ‘heightened alert’ at James Lane Allen Elementary School has been lifted.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Fayette County Public Schools says one elementary school has been placed on “heightened alert.”

The school district says James Lane Allen Elementary School was placed on the heightened alert Thursday morning because of a shooting near the school.

Under a heightened alert, students are kept inside the school and classes continue as normal.

According to Lexington police, they responded to 1040 Cross Keys Road around 10:30 a.m. to a report of a shooting in front of an apartment complex.

They say two people were found shot at the scene. The victims were taken to the University of Kentucky hospital with non life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Police say two people were seen running from the scene after the shooting.

They are still searching for the suspects.
