Boyle County prison operating without power

A medium security prison in Boyle County has been without power since Saturday afternoon.

Northpoint Training Center says power went out around 3:15 Saturday.

Electrical wiring on a pole outside the prison caught fire.

The prison’s generator also failed.

Northpoint says its staff plus KU workers and electrical contractors have been out throughout the night, trying to fix it.

Until they do, though, all activities are cancelled, including visits.
