Man indicted on child abuse charges involving two-week-old infant

BOYLE COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A Boyle County man is facing serious felony charges after a grand jury indictment connected to the abuse of a newborn child.

According to court records, Matthew Watts was indicted by a Boyle County grand jury on charges of first-degree criminal abuse and second-degree criminal abuse involving a child age 12 or younger. Investigators say the child involved was just two weeks old at the time of the alleged incident.

Authorities say Watts was arrested at his workplace in Harrodsburg with assistance from local law enforcement. He was taken into custody without incident.

Watts is currently being held in the Boyle County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond as he awaits further court proceedings. Additional details about the case have not been released.
