Boyd County reports 9th food worker with hepatitis A
BOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Boyd County has its 9th case of hepatitis A involving a food service worker.
Officials with the Ashland-Boyd County Health Department report an employee at the Tudor’s Biscuit World in the 2000 block of Winchester Avenue in Ashland was diagnosed Tuesday.
According to the Tudor’s Corporate Office, the employee was hired two weeks ago and showed no symptoms of any kind. The company says the employee’s last shift was Friday, May 25th.
The risk for infection is “very low,” according to the health department.
This is the most recent case reported.
The health department says a case of hepatitis A was diagnosed on Monday in an employee at O’Charley’s located at 461 River Hill Drive in Ashland.
O’Charley’s says the employee was sent home immediately.
The company also says all employees involved in food preparation are required to wear gloves at all times.
The risk to patrons in this case is also considered “low,” according to health officials.
Both Tudor’s Biscuit World and O’Charley’s are working with the health department to follow all necessary protocol and say all of their employees are now required to get a Hepatitis A vaccination.
