Boyd County Jail relocating inmates after some set fires during riot
BOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- Corrections officials are trying to figure out where to move inmates after they started fires during a riot.
Jail officials say yesterday around 11:30 p.m. ten maximum security inmates fought with two deputies. The deputies reportedly were not able to close the cell door before inmates got out into a hallway.
Jail staff members say the inmates stacked blankets, mail, and toilet paper and set them on fire. State Police and others came to help, and eventually jailers were able to regain control.
There are still some inmates at the jail, but 70 have been moved to other facilities and jailers say they want to move more so they can evaluate the damage.
