Boyd County deputy recovering after possible substance exposure at detention center
BOYD COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — The Boyd County Detention Center is thanking the community for its support after a deputy was hospitalized following a serious medical emergency on August 7.
Officials say the deputy developed severe symptoms, possibly linked to exposure to an unknown substance during routine intake procedures. He was placed on a ventilator but is now awake, communicating, and showing progress in his recovery.
A second deputy experienced mild symptoms and was treated and released. The affected area underwent full decontamination by detention center staff and first responders and has been deemed safe.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities say there is no connection to a previous, unrelated exposure incident. The detention center is asking for continued privacy and support for the deputies.
