Bourbon producer gets $25,500 bid for first bottle

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (AP) — The first bottle of bourbon produced in Hardin County since the 1890s has sold in an online auction for $25,500.

The News-Enterprise (http://bit.ly/11lJHlQ) reports that price might have set a record for the most expensive bourbon or whiskey ever sold.

The Kentucky Distillers’ Association told Brent Goodin of Boundary Oak Distillery that its research found the highest price paid for a product in the whiskey family was $25,000 during a charity auction.

Proceeds from the sale will go to the charity of the buyer’s choice.

Auction officials told the newspaper they first need to verify the winning bid, and then the buyer would be named during a ceremony on Monday.
