Body Recovered After Fire In Richmond

A fire broke out in a home on East Walnut Street Monday afternoon around 1 p.m. Officials found a body inside the home.

Officials on scene say that they think the person inside was an elderly woman that lived at the house.

Madison County Coroner Jimmy Cornelison says he doesn’t know for sure if it’s the home owner. The remains have been taken to Frankfort for more testing and positive identification.

Fire investigators with the Richmond Fire Department are still on scene.

The cause of the fire has not been released.
