GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) — On Tuesday afternoon, firefighters responded to Bluegrass Storage in Georgetown for a report of smoke coming from multiple units.

“Once the crews arrived, there was smoke coming around three different units over here. One more significantly than the others by the time they popped the door on that one and got it up, we did have a dog that came out,” said Chief of the Georgetown Fire Department, Tim Thompson.

Officials say the dog made them think there could be someone inside one of the units.

“Shortly after we pulled a victim from the, from the storage unit,” he added.

The body is being sent to the medical examiner’s office in Frankfort, but Chief Thompson says, “he was a male victim in the sixties.”

On Tuesday night, Scott County Coroner Mark Sutton identifying the body as that of Richard Centers.

Authorities are still working to determine the cause of the fire.

“With the storage units, the fire load is just so large and these are usually depending upon how they’re utilized, they can be stuffed wall to wall with everything that you can think of. And, just when, when you do have a fire that starts in these, it just doesn’t take very long for it to grow,” also added Thompson.

The cause of death is still unknown.
