Blue Grass Energy Now Offers Outage Texting

After verifying the cooperative has their correct phone number, members can enroll in the program by texting “bgoutage” to 85700.  Then, if the member experiences a power outage, all they have to do is text “#out” to 85700, verify their location and their outage will be reported.

“Guided by our purpose of making life better, the cooperative way, we are always looking for ways to make things better for our members,” said Chris Brewer, vice-president of Power Delivery. “Outage texting does that.”

The new texting option will also allow members to check the status of their outage by simply texting “#status”. The service will provide the most current information such as crew status and restoration times. Participating members will also receive an automatic notice when power has been restored.

“We live in a real-time world and our members want real-time information,” Brewer said. “Although we answer phones around the clock, they can get extremely busy during an outage, so texting provides an automated, immediate response that keeps members updated until power is returned.”
