“Black Friday Girls” Remember Cousin
For five women in the Fayette Mall in Lexington, Black Friday means more than just shopping.
Tina Pasley, Michelle Osborne, Jennifer Bishop, Cassandra Gilbert, and Cathy Wagoner have named themselves the "Black Friday Girls."
They wear pink Santa hats and matching sweatshirts with "Tribute" on the back.
It’s a way for the girls to honor the sixth "Black Friday Girl," who perished in a car accident three years ago.
Amber Fields, the girls’ cousin, was driving along I-75 when the accident occured. She was in her early 20s and left behind a young son.
"We think of her on this day," said Pasley. "It was a rite of passage when she got to come with us because she was younger."
In previous years, the girls said they would wake up early to catch the sales on Black Friday.
This year, they started shopping on Thursday as stores opened earlier.
But, regardless of when the stores begin welcoming holiday shoppers, the Black Friday Girls said they’ll spend the entire time remembering their cousin.
