Bill to strengthen government accountability, similar to DOGE, advances in Kentucky Senate
FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A bill aimed at increasing government accountability in Kentucky is moving forward after passing unanimously in committee.
Senate Bill 257, sponsored by Sen. Lindsey Tichenor, a Republican from Smithfield, would expand the state auditor’s authority to investigate waste and mismanagement in state agencies. The bill also provides additional funding and staff to conduct audits and ensure compliance with the law.
“To create a government that operates efficiently and delivers core services effectively, and represents the contributions of hardworking Kentuckians, it is our duty to taxpayers to ensure that we are utilizing their hard-earned dollars wisely and with prudence,” Tichenor said. “This is part of our efforts as a state to reduce our income tax to zero.”
Supporters say the measure is a step toward greater transparency. The bill now moves to the full Senate for a vote.
