Big South Fork proposes horse camp change

ONEIDA, Tenn. (AP) — Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area wants to manage the Bear Creek Horse Camp under the park’s fee program.

A concessions contract that the campground operates under now is due to expire at the end of the year.

The Bear Creek Horse Camp is about 7 ½ miles from Stearns, Kentucky. It has 23 campsites with electric and water hookups, tie-out stalls for horses and a horse trail circling the campground with access to back-country areas of the park.

The proposed rate is $28 per night. Revenue will be reinvested in maintenance and upkeep.

The 125,000-acre national river and recreation area lies on the Tennessee-Kentucky border.
