Bicyclist killed in Sunday accident was local cardiologist

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The bicyclist killed in a crash Sunday afternoon has been identified as 62-year-old Dr. David Cassidy.

Cassidy was a cardiologist at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

According to Kentucky State Police, the accident happened on Paris Pike, just before 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of Ferguson Road.  Troopers say a woman driving an SUV was traveling southbound.  After she passed a vehicle in the right lane, she merged back into the lane, but did not see Cassidy and collided with his bike just after 4:00 p.m.

Cassidy was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bourbon Co. Coroner.

The investigation of the crash continues.
