Bevin says minorities underrepresented on University of Louisville board
Frankfort, Ky. (WTVQ) – Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin says minorities remain underrepresented on the University of Louisville’s governing board in violation of state law.
The governor’s office said Thursday that state law requires at least three racial minority members on the U o fL Board of Trustees. Bevin’s office says there’s currently one minority trustee.
Bevin is weighing in on the issue in a court filing.
Bevin agrees with the Kentucky Justice Resource Center’s argument that based on current Census data, UofL must have at least three minority trustees to comply with state law.
UofL President James Ramsey says he supports Bevin’s push for greater racial diversity on the board to comply with the law.
The Justice Resource Center filed a lawsuit claiming then-Gov. Steve Beshear failed to appoint a sufficient number of minorities to UofL’s board.
