Beshear talks about VP possibility

FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Governor Andy Beshear is set to travel to Iowa this weekend to serve as the keynote speaker for the Iowa Democratic Party’s annual Liberty and Justice Celebration. The event is a significant gathering for Democrats in the state and will take place this Saturday, with Governor Beshear expected to speak during the event’s dinner, scheduled for sometime after 6 p.m.

Amidst his upcoming speaking engagement, Governor Beshear addressed ongoing speculation about the possibility of being chosen as Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate in the 2024 presidential race. On Thursday, he answered more questions regarding the potential nomination.

“I am honored to be considered. And regardless of what comes next, I’ll do everything I can between now and Election Day to elect Kamala Harris as the next President of the United States of America,” Beshear stated. “Again, the only way that I would consider accepting anything else is if I believe that I can help this state and this country more in a different way. It is a great responsibility and a great gift to be able to serve as Kentucky’s governor, and no matter what, this is my home.”

Officials have indicated that the decision regarding the vice presidential running mate could be announced within the next two weeks.
