Beshear says significant snow will complicate flood cleanup

KENTUCKY (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – As cleanup efforts continue from last weekend’s devastating floods, Kentucky crews are now bracing for another round of winter weather.

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, road crews spent Tuesday pre-treating highways with brine, salt, and anti-icing materials in preparation for incoming snow. The agency shared a video on Facebook, showing crews hard at work.

Governor Andy Beshear warned that the snow could make ongoing flood recovery efforts even more challenging.

“We’re gonna have our transportation cabinet officials and our county and city folks still working the flooding and the debris removal at the same time that they’re trying to work the snow issues,” Beshear said. “My hope is we get the lower side, which could be just a couple of inches, but if we get six inches, it’s going to really complicate the cleanup.”

State officials are reminding drivers to keep a safe distance from snow trucks as crews continue pre-treating roads. Drivers are urged to remain weather-aware and use caution when traveling.
