Beshear, other Democratic governors meet with President Biden

(WTVQ) — President Joe Biden met with Democratic governors at the White House on Wednesday night, with Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear among them.

The meeting came amid mounting pressure after what many call a poor performance from Biden in last week’s debate against Donald Trump.

Beshear discussed the debate on CNN’s “The Situation Room” on Tuesday night.

“I think we’ve all got to be up front and honest that, what we saw in the debate, it was rough,” Beshear said. “It was a rough night and regardless of polls that you see, it’s going to hurt the campaign.”

Beshear also said he wants to check on the President, like many other Democratic governors.

“I don’t think there’s anything wrong with asking the president to talk to the American people a little bit more about his health or that debate performance,” Biden explains. “It’s like seeing somebody you haven’t seen in a while and they seem a little off, and you asking how they’re doing and then listening to their answer is showing concern for them but also just trying to make sure that things are OK.”

The Governor also addressing rumors that he could be on the short list to potentially replace Biden, should he decide to step aside.

“My name coming up, it’s flattering as a person to hear, but I think it’s more about the good things going on in Kentucky,” says Beshear. “We’ve lowered the temperature. We have democrats and republicans working together. We have record job growth, record exports, record tourism.”

Meanwhile, Texas congressman Lloyd Doggett became the first Democratic lawmaker to publicly call on Biden to remove himself as the Democratic nominee in November’s presidential election after last week’s debate debacle.

As the White House continues damage control, former president Donald Trump is counting a win in the New York courts. Sentencing in his hush money conviction has been postponed following Monday’s Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity.
