Beshear, Coleman headline Fairness Rally in Frankfort opposing LGBTQ-related legislation
FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Governor Andy Beshear and Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman joined advocates at the Capitol Education Center on Wednesday for the annual Fairness Rally, where speakers voiced opposition to several bills filed in the Kentucky General Assembly that they say could impact LGBTQ+ Kentuckians.
Organizers say the rally focused on legislation they describe as anti-LGBTQ+, including Senate Bill 72. Supporters of the rally claim the measure could allow some healthcare workers to deny or refuse services based on sincerely held beliefs.
During the event, Beshear addressed the crowd, emphasizing acceptance and unity.
“We win by lifting others up and showing love and acceptance every single day. You are citizens of the commonwealth, just as worthy as anyone else. I see you, I appreciate you, and I will continue to serve each and every one of you,” Beshear said.
Advocates at the rally say they are tracking multiple bills during this year’s legislative session and encouraging residents to stay informed. Organizers say a full list of legislation they are monitoring is available on their campaign website.
The rally brought together community members, elected leaders, and advocacy groups to highlight concerns and encourage continued dialogue around policies affecting LGBTQ+ individuals across Kentucky.
