Beshear, 38 state attorneys general urge Congress to fund civil legal aid
FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ)- Bipartisan letter sent to Congress requests support for the largest funder of legal services for low-income Americans.
Attorney General Andy Beshear along with a bipartisan coalition of 38 state attorneys general announced the plan Monday.
It calls for Congress to provide funding to an independent, nonprofit organization that would provide legal aid programs throughout the U.S.
Letters requesting funding for the Legal Services Corporation (LSC) have been submitted to the U.S. House and U.S. Senate Committees on Appropriations in the Fiscal Year 2019 Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Appropriations bill.
Surrounding states joining Kentucky include Illinois, Tennessee and Virginia.
