Berea woman showcases garden sanctuary to help animals in need

BEREA, Ky. (WTVQ) – On Saturday, an avid gardener and animal lover combined her two loves to help make a difference for animals in need.

For about 30 years, Mary Startzman has tended her sanctuary in her back yard.

The garden sits on about an acre of land and is complete with a tree house, coy pond and a outdoor fireplace.

This past weekend, it was one of the spaces that was featured during a Berea Garden tour aimed to benefit Paws 4 The Cause in Lexington.

Patrons donated 15 dollars to explore 3 local gardens in the community, including Startzman’s while at the same time, helping animals in need.

“I just don’t think that we can do enough to help the non-profit organizations who do so much for the helpless animals and the voice-less animals that are out there that are so much in need of help,” says Startzman.

Startzman will be showcasing her garden once again on June 19th and July 17th.
