Berea woman scammed out of $5,000
BEREA, Ky. (WTVQ) – A grandmother lost thousands of dollars in a phone scam after someone called to tell her that her grandson was in jail.
Berea police say the person called her, claiming to be a police officer from Cleveland, Ohio. That person told her that her grandson has just been arrested and then put her on the phone with a person who claimed to be her grandson.
The person told her that she needed to send a money order in the amount of $5,060.00 to get him out of jail.
Police say the victim sent out a money order, and later discovered that she had been scammed.
