Berea couple charged with murder after toddler dies

BEREA, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Berea couple is charged in connection to the death of a 2-year-old boy.

Kentucky State Police say they were contacted Monday evening after Tristan Clements was brought to Berea Hospital then taken to the University of Kentucky hospital with life-threatening injuries.

According to Trooper Robert Purdy, Clements was suffering from bruises, bite marks and a brain injury.

He died just before noon on Wednesday.

Purdy say Clements was injured while in the care of his mother and her boyfriend at a home on Dreyfus Road in Madison County.

Police arrested and charged the child’s mother, 26-year-old Seara M. Clements, and her boyfriend, 31-year-old William Butler, with murder, abuse of a child under 12, and failure to report neglect or abuse.

Purdy says investigators are not sure how long the boy had been abused.

An autopsy will be performed in Frankfort.
