Berea man accused of kidnapping child

BEREA, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Berea man is in custody for kidnapping a young child, according to police.

Berea police say 41-year-old John Poynter went to a home on Glades Road Friday and took a six-year-old child.

The child was with a babysitter at the time.

According to police, Poynter did not have custody of the child.

He and the child were found a short time later.

Poynter is in the Madison County Detention Center, charged with kidnapping.
